Col. McGregor predicts Netanyahu’s downfall: October 7 was allowed to happen

Retired Colonel Douglas McGregor has made a bold prediction regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s future, suggesting that recent events will lead to his downfall.

McGregor’s comments come after a series of revelations about Netanyahu’s actions surrounding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks.

In a recent interview with Judge Andrew Napolitano on Judging Freedom, McGregor pointed to a historical precedent in Israeli politics, where former Prime Minister Golda Meir faced repercussions for failing to act on warning signs before the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

“Some of your viewers may recall that Golda Meir was ultimately held responsible for the disaster in 1973,” McGregor noted. “She decided to disregard warnings about an imminent Egyptian attack across the canal.”

According to McGregor, Netanyahu may be facing a similar fate. The retired colonel emphasized that, just as the Israelis had misinterpreted the Egyptian military’s actions before the 1973 conflict, Netanyahu’s handling of intelligence and warnings about the October 7 attacks will come under intense scrutiny.

McGregor believes that the events of October 7 were not just a failure of intelligence but were allowed to unfold by the Israeli government, a notion that is gaining momentum in some quarters.

McGregor’s comments follow recent reports that Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, was dismissed by Netanyahu, further escalating tensions within the Israeli government. Additionally, Israeli news outlets have revealed that Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic security service, has been investigating Netanyahu since June.

“The Israelis know what they’re doing when this sort of thing comes,” McGregor said, suggesting that the October 7 attack could have been prevented. “I do think it will become very clear that October 7 was allowed to happen, that it shouldn’t have happened.” McGregor’s statement indicates that, like Meir in 1973, Netanyahu may be held responsible for a catastrophic failure in leadership.

The retired colonel questioned whether Netanyahu’s political career could survive the fallout from these revelations. “I think that will come out and that of course will be the end of Mr. Netanyahu forever,” McGregor predicted.

However, McGregor also raised concerns about the long-term stability of the Israeli state itself. While he believes Netanyahu’s tenure is in jeopardy, he stressed that the future of Israel is still uncertain.

“The question is will the Israeli state itself survive all of this in the long run?” McGregor asked, leaving the future of the nation hanging in the balance. “I still think that’s very much up to… well, it’s simply unknown.”
