Journalist Kyle Becker has raised concerns about several anomalies in the 2024 U.S. Senate election in Arizona, pointing out inconsistencies in voting patterns that have sparked questions following the Republican landslide across the nation.
Becker noted a curious discrepancy in the results between various races in Arizona, where the Republican-backed candidate Kari Lake received fewer votes than expected, while Democratic Senate candidate Ruben Gallego outperformed expectations.
“Donald Trump got 150,000 more votes than Trump-backed candidate Kari Lake. Lake got nearly 40,000 more votes than Kamala Harris. But Democratic Senate candidate Ruben Gallego got 45,000 more than Lake and 80,000 more than Harris? Somebody make it make sense,” Becker tweeted.
The election saw Gallego, a Democratic congressman, defeat Lake, the former Republican news journalist, to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate. The Senate race was considered one of the most competitive of the 2024 elections, with former Senator Kyrsten Sinema opting not to seek re-election after her term as an independent.
Despite the closely contested race, Becker pointed out anomalies that stood out. He observed that Gallego, the Democratic nominee, received 45,000 more votes than Lake, despite Lake’s strong backing from Republican voters in the state. Interestingly, Gallego also outpaced Vice President Kamala Harris by 80,000 votes, a figure that Becker found perplexing.
“Why did Gallego, who was not as popular as Lake or Harris in terms of the general election dynamics, suddenly surge ahead in the Senate race?” Becker questioned in his X post. This raised the issue of the unusually high number of votes that appeared to skew in Gallego’s favor when compared to other candidates.
One of Becker’s key points was the fact that the number of House Republican votes (1,499,197) exceeded the votes for either Kari Lake (1,426,479) or Ruben Gallego (1,471,361). Meanwhile, House Democrats were nearly on par with the votes for Kamala Harris, who received 1,361,507 votes. “What in the hell is going on in Arizona?” Becker asked.
As of November 10, 2024, just 87% of the votes had been counted in Arizona, adding to the mystery of the final results. Despite Gallego’s narrow win with 49.7% of the vote, the slow and unpredictable pace of vote counting has raised concerns among both analysts and voters alike. This has fueled skepticism about the overall transparency of the election process.
